JENAN MCCLAIN
An inherent childhood passion, Jenan’s painting flourished following a transformative event five years ago, enabling her to access an intuitive approach beneath her brush. Attending the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, SC through high school, and under the mentorship of talent Jim Campbell, she first experienced the beautiful beginnings of meditative creation. Much of her textured, expressionistic work centers around the maternal in nature: marshes as mothers of the sea, flowers as the divine feminine, and figurative abstractions- whimsical pillars of strength and wisdom. A Clemson graduate, she lived and worked in the Caribbean for several years in luxury real estate development, simultaneously creating and implementing summer painting programs for underprivileged children. Now a full-time artist and poet, her features include Skirt magazine, ABC's Low Country Live, GSD Entrepreneur, and blogger collaborations with Andrea Cerrano(Charleston Shop Curator), Ashley Brown (Sweet Southern Prep), Jaime Huffman (Charleston Blonde), Natalie Mason (Snoop Natty Nat), Megan Bonner (Pretty in Pink), Alexis Belbel, Belbel (A Double Dose), and Shannon Wilardson, (For the Love).
Jenan lives in Mount Pleasant, SC with her husband Bryant, ten-year-old daughter Isla, and mini doodle, Goji. She currently exhibits her work downtown Charleston at the Miller Gallery, and in San Antonio at AnArte Gallery, selling to collectors nationwide and internationally.
