STAN UNSER
Creating viewer involvement is my foremost purpose. When images inspire me, I will stir them up to start a story to share. The story evolves through digital adjustment, photo transfer, and final painting of the image. Combining abstract and figurative elements I welcome the ambiguity that invites viewers to create their own story.
Stan Unser was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1954 and lived most of his childhood in Minnesota. After two years of studying art and philosophy in college, his life was altered by the untimely death of a younger brother. Turning toward science, he received an MD degree from the University of Minnesota in 1982 using an Army scholarship. After completing his military career, he continued to give care and disability services to Wounded Warriors at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas until retiring his medical license in 2016. He has since continued his art training at Southwest School of Art and taught Mixed Media Art classes for Adult Learning in Retirement at Northeast Independent School District in San Antonio. Stan’s work has won multiple awards in San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Corpus Christi, and is displayed by collectors across the United States as well as San Antonio, New Braunfels, Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas, and other Texas locations.
